Title Research through Relationships
Year 2000
Access date 31.08.2004
Abstract The use of Internet research has become more widespread over recent years. As consumer researchers move into this new arena, they face new challenges. This paper identifies two challenges that are not as well recognised by the consumer research community: an effective means of attracting and engaging respondents, and ensuring that a move into the online field does not mean a compromise in research validity. The proposition of this paper is that researchers should harness the power of relationships on the Internet, creating research communities for online research. A case study of a virtual community for teenagers is used as an illustration. Although this achieved mixed success, it raised important learning points. These are discussed in relation to the future development of virtual communities for online research.
